Oriental Lily 'Casablanca' has enormous, majestic flowers, among the largest in its genus. They are highly fragrant, pure white and immaculate, borne on long, sturdy stems. Remarkable in bouquets, in large pots on the terrace, or in beds of pink and blue perennial plants.
Â
Â
Lilies belong to the Liliaceae family. 'Casablanca' is classified in the category of Oriental hybrids derived from Japanese lilies. This tall lily will reach a height of 1m (3ft) when in bloom, with a spread of 45 cm (18in). It will flower in July-August, in the form of huge white trumpets over 20 cm (8in) long, with brown anthers. Each sturdy stem bears a crown composed of groups of 3 to 5 intensely fragrant flowers. The leaves are lanceolate, alternate, bright green, and deciduous.
Â
This lily thrives in moist, humus-rich soil, and doesn't like chalky, poorly drained, or heavy soils. You can plant Lilium 'Casablanca' with perennial plants in beds and borders as it prefers to have its base in the shade, and the other plants will help prevent the stems from bending under the wind's influence.

Botanical data
Oriental hybrid Lily 'Casablanca' thrives in humus-rich soil and does not like overly chalky soils. Ensure good drainage as it does not like heavy soils either. Plant it in full sun, preferably in spring, planting the bulbs 15 cm (6in) deep in a pocket of soil mixed with leaf compost. Surround them with a layer of sand to prevent rot and slug attacks, while allowing them to grow more easily. Mark the planting location, as vegetation only begins in April. When the stems reach 30 cm (12in) tall, discreetly stake them. If red lily beetles appear, treat them immediately as their larvae can devour all the leaves. The most effective method is to catch them manually but be careful as they drop as soon as you touch them. After flowering, it is a good idea to cut off the faded flowers halfway to keep the bed beautiful during the summer.Â

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
