A salmon pink hue refreshes this lovely spring flower that blooms in double, rounded clusters. It adds charm to hanging basket compositions and at the base of borders near spring bulbs. The small clusters renew themselves for a long time from February and withstand the cold.

Description

Bellis perennis 'Robella' is a variety of daisy that enchants with its salmon pink hue, unique in the range of daisies. This particular colour and its numerous double, rounded pompoms, with tubular petals, give the plant a very special appeal, in addition to its remarkable cold resistance and generous flowering. Perfect for planters or to enhance the front of borders, 'Robella' daisies blend harmoniously among bulbs to herald the arrival of spring.

Bellis perennis means "eternal beauty" and symbolises the Virgin Mary. In the language of flowers, they represent innocence and attachment. Their childish and fun side indeed heralds the long-awaited spring. Originally a perennial, used as a biennial preferring moist, well-drained soils. Its size (15 cm) allows it to slip along the edge of borders, in front of daffodils, jonquils, and tulips, but you can also find a place for it among grape hyacinths and forget-me-nots in pots and planters. 'Robella' develops a rosette of dark green leaves, from which several hairy stems emerge, bearing at their top a single head. These pompoms are very double, rounded, with rolled petals, positioned very densely, with an impressive geometric regularity. Its salmon colour is rare among daisies. You can even taste them, as daisy petals are edible; so sprinkle your first salads with these colourful filaments.

Bellis perennis 'Robella' is a spring flower, cheerful yet simple, of low height, beautifying gardens from February to May. Its tender colour works well in pots placed near the house, where it elegantly blends with the pastel shades of pansies. You can also use it to soften the more intense colours of certain tulips by interplanting them in your borders. Its flowers are charming as a carpet, but also with other smaller flowering plants or bushy foliage. Remove faded flowers to encourage reblooming.

Planting and care

Bellis Robella can be sown in summer, like biennials. The seeds will prefer temperatures between 15 and 20 °C, so you can sow them outdoors or in a properly ventilated shelter. They will germinate between 7 and 21 days, depending on the conditions.

Sow broadcast in a tray or pots filled with potting soil mixed with a little sand or vermiculite, cover with a light layer of substrate and keep it moist. In October, the young plants can be pricked out and planted in flower beds or in planters. In both cases, you can also plant your spring bulbs between the plants. Watch out for snails and slugs that are fond of the young shoots of these Bellis.
