Our collection of tropical climbing plants will transform your balconies, terraces, or sheltered gardens into small islands of exotic charm. Originating from warm regions, these plants display exuberant vegetation and often spectacular flowering. Whether in pots or in the ground, depending on their hardiness, they love warmth, light, and protected environments.
Bougainvillea with its colourful bracts that bloom all summer long, is a Mediterranean plant loved by gardeners. Place it in a pot in the sun, and bring it indoors at the first frost. The Madagascar jasmine (Stephanotis floribunda) produces clusters of highly fragrant white flowers that perfume the conservatory or a bright indoor space. Tropical and vigorous passionflowers offer several fruiting climbers, as well as hardier varieties like 'Amethyst', which can be planted in the garden in mild climates. Usually grown as an annual, Thunbergia alata, or Black-eyed Susan, with its rapid growth, is perfect for covering a trellis. More rare, Pandorea jasminoides 'Rosea' is an Australian climbing plant with pale pink trumpet-shaped flowers and a purple throat, captivating with its prolonged flowering and delicate appearance: it prefers container cultivation and should be overwintered in a sheltered location.
Give them a sunny, sheltered location and well-drained soil. Water regularly, but not excessively, during the growth period. Potted plants should be overwintered away from frost, in a bright and cool area. Prune in spring to maintain a beautiful shape and encourage flowering.
