Description

The Cream Coreopsis from the 'UpTick' series, with its large cream-coloured daisy-like flowers, possesses all the qualities that have earned this new hybrid series multiple awards. This lovely perennial stands out with its particularly wide flowers, generous and long-lasting flowering, good disease resistance, as well as compact and vigorous growth. It thrives in the sun, in a cool but well-drained soil, both in borders and pots. Its charming flowers are also highly visited by garden bees.

The 'UpTick Cream' Coreopsis belongs to the Aster family. This herbaceous perennial plant with rhizomes quickly forms a shrub 20 cm (8in) tall, with a diameter of 30 cm (12in), and does not require staking. Flowering occurs from June to September. The flowers, arranged in heads, measuring up to 7 cm (3in) in diameter, are solitary and borne on slightly hairy stems rising 30-35 cm (12-14in) from the ground, just above the foliage. The foliage, a beautiful bright green, is deciduous: it dies in autumn and regrows in spring. The leaves, opposite, lanceolate, entire, sometimes incised at the base, almost sessile (without petiole), measure about 10 cm (4in) long. This perennial spreads a little through its rhizomes.

The 'UpTick Cream' coreopsis is a full-sun plant that dislikes winter moisture and heavy soils. A versatile perennial, it will thrive in flower pots and look stunning in a slightly raised bed or on a slope. It can be paired in an herbaceous border with wallflowers, poppies, blue or purple perennial salvias, and campanulas. This plant blooms continuously from the first year. For a beautiful summer display, it can be combined with Calamintha glandulosa and Nepeta 'Dawn to Dusk' in the ground or in large pots, with very little water. It also makes a very pretty flower for summer bouquets.

Planting and care

The 'Uptick Cream' coreopsis is an easy-to-grow plant that requires specific conditions for optimal growth. This plant doesn't like winter humidity or heavy soils and needs to be in full sun to flower well. It prefers light, fresh, porous soil that is consistently well-drained and slightly acidic, neutral, or chalky. By creating these ideal conditions, the plant will bloom longer and look healthier. To encourage reblooming, it is recommended to remove faded flowers regularly. Doing this in July can also help promote autumn reblooming. This will extend the life of the plant. Finally, divide tired shrubs every three years to rejuvenate them.
