Dianthus Sunflor Beetle

Dianthus Sunflor 'Beetle'  is a perennial double carnation with intense, durable flowering. Admired for its dwarf and compact stature, this variety forms a delightful cushion of evergreen grey-blue foliage, ideal for floral arrangements. This variety is part of the Sunflor collection and stands out for its early flowering and abundant deliciously scented flowers, bringing a touch of colour to the garden from April to September. This hybrid Dianthus is a low-maintenance perennial plant that can be grown in the ground or in a pot. It is hardy to -10°C (14°F). With its vibrant and vigorous, lovely purplish-violet flowers, 'Beetle' flowers continuously throughout the season. This plant develops into a robust cushion and withstands dry or rocky soils, thriving in full sun.

Dianthus Sunflor 'Beetle' belongs to the Caryophyllaceae family, which includes soapwort, sandwort, and baby's breath. It is one of many varieties resulting from the cross-breeding of Dianthus plumarius and Dianthus caryophyllus. Dianthus plumarius is a European perennial plant, the main ancestor of various old or modern carnation varieties. Dianthus caryophyllus, of Mediterranean origin, has passed on its wonderful clove fragrance and tolerance to limestone and dry soils. The Sunflor 'Beetle' Carnation grows rapidly, reaching a maximum height and spread of 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8in). It forms a dense clump and produces wide double flowers with a diameter of 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in), carried by short, branched stems, from April to October. Its linear, evergreen, and leathery, magnificent grey-blue leaves, are pointed and smooth.

To recreate a nostalgic atmosphere, create a border of these adorable carnations alongside peonies and old roses. A harmonious association can be created by combining Sunflor® Dianthus with Lavender Munstead, Pincushion Pink Scabiosa, Dwarf Gaillardia Lutin, and Sunray Tickseed, providing an elegant and harmonious contrast. To create a vibrant and colourful garden, combine them with annual plants like Petunias, Lobelias, and Endurascape Verbenas, in a dazzling range of bright hues. Cosmos and osteospermums are also good choices to extend the flowering period.
