Quite disappointed by the thin stems and the young plant itself (dull colour). Stems are really thin, but the customer service has been impeccable.

Description

Diascia fetcaniensis is a perennial native to South Africa, sought after for its abundant flowers and long flowering period. From June to October, it produces loose clusters of bright pink flowers with downward-curved spurs. It forms vigorous spreading clumps, reaching a height of no more than 30 cm (12in), but can spread between 50 and 100 cm². The leaves are cordate and villous with well-defined veins.

Well-known for its use in hanging baskets and containers, it is very attractive in rock gardens, low borders, or trailing casually over walls, either alone or at the base of shrubs.  Plant it in association with the silver foliage of Italian Everlasting Helichrysum italicum, or the blue foliage of Sedum cauticola, or in shadier areas with Hostas.  A plant to try in well-drained soil, in areas which are not too cold.

Diasca fetcaniensis is one of the hardiest in its genus, but will rarely withstand temperatures below -8°C/-10°C for several days. You can help it survive the winter by planting it in well-drained soil and generously mulching the stump, covering it with winter protection or storing it in a frost-free location.

Planting and care

Plant Diascia fetcaniensis in a fertile soil to which is moist to occasionally dry, humus-rich, and well-drained  in winter. This plant dislikes waterlogged ground.  It is useful to pinch the terminal shoots to accentuate the bushy habit. Cut back the old stems after flowering. This Diascia is hardy up to about -8°C (17.6°F), in a well-drained soil and during relatively short periods of frost. In winter, outside mild climate regions, it is preferable to shelter this tender plant in a cold greenhouse or an unheated conservatory.
