Rosa x floribunda - Parfuma - 'Baronne Caroline' - Shrub Rose

The 'Baronne Caroline' Rose from the Parfuma Collection is a new addition from Kordes that combines the floribundity and natural disease resistance of modern creations from the German rose breeder with the incomparable charm of old roses. This upright and bushy bush is adorned with beautiful dark green foliage that serves as a backdrop for bouquets of generously shaped roses in a slightly purplish pink colour, capable of perfuming an entire area of the garden. The flowering continues throughout the summer on this small bush that received the highly demanding German A.D.R. label in 2019. A charming and carefree rose, ideal for use in flower beds with small bushes or perennials. Its modest growth also makes it suitable for container cultivation. And its romantic flowers are beautiful in a vase.

The Rosa x floribunda 'Baronne Caroline' ('KORbevmahe') was recently introduced by the German rose breeder Kordes (2017). This creation is part of a series of roses, the 'Parfuma' selected for their fragrance, among other criteria. An upright and bushy habit characterises it: well-branched. This bush reaches about 70 cm (28in) in height and 50 cm (20in) in width. Its thorny stems bear reddish young shoots that unfold into dark green leaves, divided into five finely toothed leaflets, slightly glossy, resistant to diseases. Its flowering is long and renewed in successive waves from June to October if the soil remains moist. Enclosed in green sepals, the magenta rose buds open into well-formed double cups measuring 7 to 8 cm (3in) in diameter, gathered in terminal clusters.

The fragrance of the roses is quite powerful and has been analysed by experts. They describe the scent as mainly having a fresh and herbaceous top note, reminiscent of the sweet smell that rises from the ground after a summer rain. As the fragrance settles, it gives off aromas of Williams pear and apple, and when the flower is fully open, it offers even fruitier notes of apricot. The floral heart note is composed of a classic rose fragrance with a geranium base. The scent of the roses is at its peak during the noon and evening hours, especially after a hot and sunny day.

Floribunda roses can be used to create beautiful small hedges planted along the edge of a terrace or in small shrub beds. Combine them with abelias, Mexican orange blossoms, or caryopteris. They are good companions for phlox and tall baby's breath. This 'Baronne Caroline' variety will be enhanced when planted in groups of 3, forming an extremely bright bush. It can be surrounded by catmints and perennial or shrubby salvias with blue, fuchsia, mauve, or white flowers. It can also be combined with white ground cover roses (Swany, Marie Pavie...), chamomiles, or light grasses such as Stipa (barbata, pennata, tenuifolia). This hardy rose that requires little maintenance will thrive in full sun or partial shade. It will satisfy all gardeners, beginners or experienced.
