5m (16ft) ecological hedge kit for small gardens
All the bushes arrived in perfect condition, they were well packaged without plastic (as I had requested). Well done to Schryve for their efforts towards ecology! Some of them were already large and they will complement the flowering hedge planted last year, which is starting to attract birds...

We're offering you a set of five different bush varieties that will enable you to create a small ecological hedge. Easy to grow and maintain, comfortable in all regions, they will be appreciated for their very staggered, sometimes fragrant flowering highly visited by pollinating insects, their autumn colours, and their decorative berries. They will create a real haven for biodiversity in the garden all year round. This kit allows you to create a hedge of approximately 5m (16ft) long, well-suited to small gardens.
The kit consists of:
- 1 x Mother of Pearl Snowberry - Symphorycarpos doorenboosii. A deciduous bush of 1.50m (5ft) in all directions, appreciated for its delightful fruiting in small pearlescent pink beads that also delight birds from September to January. The flowering, from spring to summer, discreet to human eyes, attracts pollinating insects. The Snowberrycan grow in any soil.
- 1 x Wayfaring Tree - Viburnum lantana. This deciduous bush measuring 3m (10ft) in height and 2m (7ft) in width is none other than the former inhabitant of our country hedges. Extremely resistant, hardy, and modest, it still has its charm: its young shoots are woolly, its spring flowering is generous, fragrant, and melliferous, its pretty red fruits turning black delight birds, and its foliage ignites in autumn before falling.
- 1 x Laurustinus - Viburnum tinus. Reaching 2.50m (8ft) in height and 2m (7ft) in width, this bush seduces with its beautiful foliage that persists in winter and its beautiful white, honey- and nectar-bearing flowering from winter to spring. It gives way to small black berries that delight birds. It offers excellent shelter to birds in winter and a home for many nests in spring. It is an undemanding plant that tolerates limestone and very dry soil in summer.
- 1 x Winter Honeysuckle - Lonicera fragrantissima. This beautiful shrub species forms a large bush measuring 2.50m (8ft) in height and 2.75m (9ft) in width. It is appreciated for its superbly fragrant white winter flowering, which will delight the first bees and bumblebees. At its peak in February, it is clearly visible on the often bare branches at this time of year. Vigorous, water-efficient, hardy, and undemanding.
- 1 x Hawthorn - Crataegus monogyna. A large thorny and deciduous bush that can reach 7m (23ft) in height and 8m (26ft) in width if not pruned. Its white and highly fragrant flowers gathered in flat heads bloom in May, much to the delight of pollinating insects. The flowers give way to red fruits called 'haws' that will be consumed by birds throughout autumn. The hawthorn will adapt anywhere.
Â
Plant these bushes in full sun or partial shade, in well-prepared ordinary soil, mixing them and spacing them 1m (3ft) apart. It is best to avoid pruning this ecological hedge to avoid compromising flowering and fruiting. If you need to intervene, avoid doing so during the nesting season. Proceed on a case-by-case basis, shortening the branches of bushes that become too large.

Botanical data
Plant these bushes in full sun or partial shade, in ordinary but well-prepared soil. Very easy to grow and highly adaptable, they will only require a single maintenance intervention when they are young – mulching in summer in dry climates to maintain a certain level of moisture. Water them in the first few years in case of significant drought. Once well established, they will fend for themselves in all our regions. You can prune the longest branches to help your bushes branch out. However, avoid pruning that limits flowering and fruiting unless your bushes become too large. Prune in moderation, and outside the bird nesting period (from March to June-July).

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
