Planting of Philadelphus ‘Starbright’ takes place from September to November or from February to April, when there is no frost, in full sun or light partial shade. An ordinary, deep, well-drained soil is enough for it, even clayey or chalky, but growth and flowering are better when the soil remains moist in spring. In a Mediterranean climate, September and October, after the rains return, are the best planting times. Partial shade is also more favourable. Regular watering is necessary during the first two summers; once established, the shrub tolerates summer drought quite well. A mulch helps retain soil moisture. In an informal hedge, spacing of 1.50 to 2 m gives each plant room to develop.
