The plant is small in size, and the branches are very frail. Not sure if it will take, as there are no signs of any shoots.

Description

Syringa 'President Grevy', a Lilac variety, is a deciduous bush with abundant spring blooms in the form of numerous clusters of cobalt blue flowers, double and fragrant. These are ideal for creating bouquets. A bush to bring romance to all gardens. Hardy and tolerant to limestone, it can be planted almost anywhere.

Syringa 'President Grevy' has a rounded habit, reaching a height and spread of 7m. Its heart-shaped leaves, medium green, appear in spring and are of a light green colour. During the month of May, blooms in the form of 10cm (3.9 in) panicles reveal themselves. Its violet-colored flower buds give way to double and fragrant flowers of cobalt blue.

Easy to grow, the 'President Grevy' Common Lilac thrives in dry to moist and well-drained soil. Originating from southeastern Europe, it has good hardiness (-15°C (5 °F) and lower). Lilacs have enchanted gardeners for generations with their sweet fragrance. Don't hesitate to plant several varieties and enjoy playing with a range of colours, from the palest pink to the deepest violet, including beautiful blues. Plant it alone, in borders, or inn hedges alongside Forsythias, Viburnums, or Cotinus. It prefers a sunny site.

Planting and care

The 'President Grevy' Lilac appreciates being planted in full sun, in a soil that remains fairly moist and well-drained. It can tolerate any soil type, but prefers slightly alkaline soils and is sensitive to highly acidic soils. It will grow well in partially shaded areas, but flowering may be reduced. Easy to grow, it only requires mulching in dry climates during summer to retain some moisture. Water it during the first few years in case of prolonged drought. You can cut the flowering stems to make beautiful bouquets, or remove faded blooms to promote the emergence of new flowers and prevent the bush from becoming exhausted. Avoid severe pruning that will limit flowering the following spring, unless your Syringa is becoming too large.
