Wow, that's something I've never seen before! My midrib and a wonder, it made 5 gigantic tears and in good health. I take pleasure in looking at it every time I pass by. A big thank you, I give it a rating of 5/5.

Description

Hippeastrum 'Blossom Peacock' is a unique bulbous plant, with large double white and red fragrant flowers. Like all amaryllis, its flowering during the greyest months is highly prized. It will be ideal for brightening and perfuming your home.

The 'Blossom Peacock' amaryllis is native to South America. Its flowers and foliage appear alternately. Its long, slender leaves are shiny dark green in colour with rounded tips. During January to May and September to December, it will develop a strong stem, 30 to 50cm (12 to 20in) in height, topped with 2 to 4 double flowers with white heart-shaped petals and red tips. The margin of the petals is undulate. The fragrant flowers are very rare among amaryllis and allow it to stand out from the majority of other varieties.

It is not hardy so should be grown in pots or containers to protect it from frost. A sunny exposure is recommended.

Planting and care

You can plant amaryllis bulbs from October to the end of April. Choose a pot that is not too large (one or two cm larger than the size of the bulb). Place a layer of drainage at the bottom. Mix half potting soil, half garden soil. Only bury the bulb halfway. Place the pot in a warm and bright place. Water sparingly until the stem appears. Then water daily. Your bulbs will bloom 6 to 8 weeks later.

If you choose multiple bulbs, plant them with a two-week interval to enjoy their beauty all winter.

After flowering, cut off the faded flowers and let the leaves continue to grow. Continue to water regularly and give them indoor plant fertiliser every 15 days. This is the time when the bulb rebuilds itself to prepare for next year's flowers. After 4 to 6 months, forget about your potted plants, and let them rest for about 3 months in a sheltered place. You can then remove the faded leaves, repot in fresh soil, and start a new growing cycle.
