Fast shipping but upon planting, one of the bulbs is completely rotten, so it's beyond saving, what a shame.

Description

Allium triquetrum is a small ornamental garlic, which bears white bell-shaped flowers with green veins. Its stem has the characteristic of being triangular, hence its name of three-cornered garlic or three-cornered stem garlic.

It is a creeping bulbous plant, 20 to 50cm (8 to 20in) tall, with a glabrous, triangular, thick stem. It has deciduous, linear, medium green, flat leaves, 5 to 10mm wide. From March to May, inflorescences grow at the ends of the stems in loose umbels, with 3 to 5 white bell-shaped flowers with green hearts and central veins on the petals. When cut, it gives off a strong garlic smell.

Native to Mediterranean regions, Allium triquetrum tolerates all rich, moist but well-drained soils in warm situations. Mulch in winter to protect it from the cold. Be aware that it quickly becomes invasive when it is happy. Cultivation in pots is possible in regions with severe cold.

Allium triquetrum is used to dress banks or border pathways.

Attention: this species can become invasive in mild and oceanic climates, causing significant ecological disorders. It can be replaced by many other varieties of ornamental garlic.

Planting and care

Plant Allium triquetrum in autumn in rich, moist but well-drained soil in a warm location, spaced 15cm (6in) apart. Add sand to the planting hole to improve drainage and avoid overly acidic soils. It can withstand harsh winters if water is not allowed to stagnate and by protecting it with a good mulch. Alternatively, you can grow it in a pot in good, loose and well-drained compost.
