Tulipa Mystic Van Eijk - Darwin hybrid Tulip

The Darwin Hybrid Tulip 'Mystic Van Eijk' is a recent variety obtained in 2006, particularly floriferous and prolific, endowed with the same ornamental qualities as its direct ancestor, the beautiful 'Van Eijk'. Its large silky flowers are a tender pink washed with deep pink and hints of apricot, evoking a very soft coral pink shade. Belonging to a new line of earlier and more perennial Darwin hybrids, 'Mystic Van Eijk' is a vigorous variety, with strong stems that is resistant to bad weather. It blooms in the heart of spring. The 'Mystic Van Eijk' Darwin hybrid tulip belongs to the lily family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in Division 4, whose main characteristics are large single, ovoid flowers in the middle of the season, carried by long stems which are resistant to bad weather. Tulips in this group are the most cultivated for the cut flower trade. 'Mystic Van Eijk' will reach 45 to 55 cm (18 to 22in) high when in bloom. Perched on strong stems, well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the large, iridescent flowers resemble magnolias, in salmon pink variegated with deep pink. The colour is enhanced by the slightly waxy and translucent texture of the petals. The bud opens to reveal a small pale yellow centre and stamens. It flowers in April-May and each flower lives for several days before wilting. This easy-to-grow variety naturalises very well in the garden and faithfully blooms every spring.

Its mystical pink corollas symbolize eternal happiness and perfect love, in the garden or bouquets, regardless of the style of the composition. 'Mystic Van Eijk' can be planted in groups, mixed with forget-me-nots for example, or with white tulips like 'Hakuun' or red like 'Big Chief'. Also mix it with white daffodils, jonquils, hyacinths or even alchemillas, Corsican hellebores and euphorbias, and you will get individual compositions. It can be planted in borders, rockeries, flower beds pots and containers. It pairs well with tall perennials and is ideal for creating charming bouquets. In a vase, use very little water at the bottom! If your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase every day.
