Alstroemeria Inca Adore - Peruvian Lily

Alstroemeria Inca Adore is a variety that stands out for its refined flowering, with a deep red colour punctuated with yellow, which you can enjoy from June to October. It displays a compact habit, ideal for pots and borders. Highly appreciated by florists, it is superb in bouquets.

Belonging to the Alstroemeriaceae (Liliaceae) family, Alstroemeria, or simply Inca Lily or Peruvian Lily, is a perennial with tuberous roots. Its funnel-shaped flowers are quite similar to those of Lilies and Orchids. They are clustered above upright stems, adorned with deciduous green foliage. The Inca Adore variety has a bushy habit, reaching an average height of 70cm (28in) and a width of 50cm (20in).

With its South American origins, the Inca Lily has retained a pronounced preference for warmth. Therefore, it should be planted in a warm and sheltered location, in full sun or partial shade in regions with scorching summers. It thrives in a light, deep, well-drained, and humus-rich soil. Its root system may be a bit slow in the first few years, so patience is required... it needs some time to establish itself.

It is moderately hardy (down to -7 °C (19.4°F)), and if grown in a pot, it should be stored during winter. In gardens located in regions with harsh winters, we recommend generously mulching its base before the arrival of the first frosts.

To stimulate its long flowering period, remember to remove faded flowers, although the Alstroemeria is so elegant in bouquets that it is unlikely to be necessary.

In the garden, it is an easy plant to combine within a warm-colored border, with Crocosmia 'Fire King' or even with the Kniphofia 'Royal Standard' for a very exotic atmosphere.
