Dwarf alstroemerias are compact Peruvian lilies, under 40 cm tall, with a bushy, well-branched habit. Their long flowering period, often repeated from June to October, brings light, small lily-like flowers to pots, planters and low borders in shades of pink, mauve, red, purple or cream depending on the variety. Their compact size makes them easy to place on a terrace, at the front of a summer border or in a seasonal display, in moist but well-drained soil.
In the very compact Pitchounes series, Alstroemeria 'Pitchounes Lola', about 25 cm tall, offers bright pink to fuchsia pink flowers, while 'Pitchounes Rosie' comes in softer shades of pink, with a light blotch at the centre of the flower. 'Pitchounes Gaspard', also very low, is well-suited to small pots. In the Inticancha series, 'Navayo' reaches about 30 cm and bears mauve flowers with a cream blotch, 'Doba' is distinguished by its deep red, and 'Dark Purple', around 35 cm, brings a rich purple hue, useful to contrast with grey foliage or white flowers.
