Out of the three purchased, only 2 survived. And those 2 remaining, planted in May, are a mere 8 cm tall in September... which is to say, next to nothing.

More information

This Inticancha Inca lily will not disappoint. Particularly robust, floriferous and compact, it continuously produces bicolour lily flowers from June to November. The flowers are white striped with purple on a grey-lilac throat. They are carried by very strong and weather-resistant low stems. This plant, which is not very hardy as a perennial, proves to be easy to grow as an annual and requires very little maintenance.

Description

Asltroemeria Inticancha 'Moon' is a new compact and floriferous variety of Peruvian Lily. It maintains a neat appearance throughout the season, making it ideal for ornamental flower pots. Particularly robust, the plant continuously produces bicoloured lily flowers from June to November, with tones of pearl, white with a delicately striated pale lilac throat infused with purple. They are borne on numerous low stems that are resistant to inclement weather. This less hardy perennial plant proves to be easy to grow as an annual and requires very little maintenance. It is simply perfect in flower pots. It will thrive in partial shade or in the sun, in light soil that is not too dry.

Alstroemeria Inticancha 'Moon' is a recent variety, resulting from the hybridization of several tuberous species native to South America, particularly the Chilean Andes. These high-altitude plants belonging to the Alstroemeriaceae family can be more or less hardy, preferring cool, well-drained soil in lightly wooded and moist areas. Slow to establish, they can either disappear or... become invasive! Quirky but fantastic plants, very sensitive to growing conditions, they are 'indestructible' once you find the right spot for them.

Asltroemeria Inticancha 'Moon', like almost all plants in the Inticancha series, is particularly compact and easy to grow in good soil. The plant quickly forms bushy clumps of leafy stems reaching 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16in) in height when in bloom, with a spread of 30 cm (12in). Flowering takes place continuously from June to October-November. The very open flowers are gathered in terminal umbels. They consist of 3 small central petals, white streaked with purple-brown and infused with lilac, surrounded by 3 larger petals, white with a more intense central zone. The centre of the flower has mauve stamens. Each plant can produce at least 30 flowers. The foliage is arranged on the upper part of the stems. The leaves of this variety are shiny green. The foliage and stems disappear in winter, leaving only the trailing stump with fleshy roots that can withstand frost down to -5/-8°C. The plant is sensitive to the shock of transplantation, especially in older plants.

Alstroemeria Inticancha 'Moon' is a superb variety for decorating flower pots and for cut flowers. On the patio or balcony, it forms a display that rivals the brilliance of balcony geraniums. In flower beds, this plant pairs well, for example, with grasses such as Stipa, small Miscanthus or Muhlenbergia capillaris, which enhance its autumn colours with their foliage and magnificent late-season blooms. You can also plant Ceratostigma plumbaginoides, with intensely blue flowers and red foliage in October, or Ajuga reptans Multicolor or 'Burgundy Glow' at its base. It's a marvel!

Note: Attention, our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before placing them outdoors once the risk of frost is definitively eliminated.

Planting and care

Alstroemeria Inticancha plants appear in spring, preferring a spot in the morning sun or partial shade, in a light, well-drained, well-cultivated soil, which is sandy or loamy, slightly acidic to neutral, not too fertile, and not too calcareous.  While they appreciate some moisture to support flowering, they adapt quite well to dry soils in summer, but their flowers will be less abundant.  These plants are somewhat hardy, down to -5 or -8°C, if the soil remains dry in winter. The stump can be protected by a thick mulch of leaves or fern fronds in autumn. Slugs love young shoots; make sure to protect them. Growing in pots allows plants to be sheltered from frost by storing them in a bright, airy, and minimally heated room.
