The Compact Ageratum Aloha F1 Blue, also known as Mexican Ageratum, is grown as an annual plant in our climates, with beautiful lavender-blue flowers. It forms a compact clump of dark green foliage with bluish highlights, on short stems topped with feathery and airy inflorescences. With a bushy habit, this ageratum or Celestine has a long flowering period and is easy to grow. It is ideal for structuring borders, containers, and the front of flower beds, in sunny locations and moist soil.
Ageratum Aloha F1 Blue is a miniature variety derived from Ageratum houstonianum, a perennial plant grown as an annual in the aster family, originating from Central America and the Caribbean. It forms rounded, bushy masses 15 cm tall with an equivalent width. Highly branched and covered in hairs, its numerous stems stand upright while gracefully spreading out. The leaves are also hairy, dentate and ovate. Sometimes heart-shaped at the base, their colour is a rather dark bluish green. From April until early autumn, the flowers bloom continuously if faded flowers are removed regularly. The inflorescences are lavender-blue heads, both soft and bright, clustered in pompons, almost entirely concealing the foliage.
Mexican ageratums are commonly used in urban landscaping due to their abundant flowering and vibrant colour palette. They pair perfectly with various low-growing plants such as French Marigolds, Marigolds, and red Sages to enhance flower beds. For a soft visual effect, combine ageratums with Begonias and pink impatiens or fragrant sweet alyssums in the foreground of compositions. The Compact Aloha F1 Blue variety is ideal for creating attractive containers with miniature Fuchsias like 'Blue Angel' on terraces or balconies and for composing beautiful bouquets indoors.
Mexican Ageratum is a plant that promotes pollinating insects. Bees, butterflies, and others.

SOWING: Sow Ageratum Aloha Blue on the surface of moist and well-drained seed compost and cover the seeds with a thin layer of vermiculite. Place the sowing in a propagator or keep it in a polythene bag at around 20-30°C until germination, which takes 7 to 21 days. Expose to light to promote germination.
CULTIVATION: When the young plants are sufficiently developed to be handled, transplant them in clumps into trays or 8cm pots. Acclimatise them to cooler conditions for a few days before planting them out when all risk of frost has passed. Space them 30cm apart.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
