These new hybrid delphiniums, called Delphinium New Zealand Doubles Mixed, display spectacular inflorescences with very double flowers, whose tightly packed petals come in pure and soft shades such as pale mauve, bright blue, fresh pink, pure white or cream, depending on the plants. These perennial varieties have the double advantage of flowering for a longer period of time and resisting rust and mildew. Irreplaceable in the background of romantic flower beds, in planters, near the house, or in bouquets, these robust plants thrive in the sun in rich, deep, permeable soils.
The Delphiniums from the 'New Zealand Doubles Mixed' selection are the result of eleven years of work and selection. They are hybrids obtained through cross-breeding with D. elatum among others, and are a great improvement on the 'Nobleman' series. These herbaceous perennial plants form clumps of finely divided, tender green palmate foliage, from which sturdy flowering stems emerge in summer, reaching heights of 1.20 m (3.9 ft) to 1.50 m (4.9 ft). The flowering period runs from June to September and is highly attractive to pollinators. The flowers are double, cup-shaped, gathered on tall upright spikes, and display a wide range of solid and sumptuous colors on their tightly packed petals. These plants show better disease resistance and develop from a woody rootstock that sinks vertically into the soil.
The characteristic silhouette of Delphiniums always brings a sense of grandeur, verticality, and charm to perennial flower beds. They also make good companions for moss or gallica roses, with which they create charming and romantic scenes. You can also create another beautiful combination with soft orange daylilies and the baby's breath Rosenschleier. This variety is well-suited for creating flower borders. Its flowers hold up very well in bouquets.

Sow Delphinium New Zealand Doubles Mixed from February to June in a good quality, well-draining soil, and lightly cover the seeds with a pinch of compost or vermiculite. Place the seed tray in a mini-greenhouse at a temperature of 10-13°C, or seal a transparent polyethylene bag and place it in a dark place until germination, which takes 1 to 3 months. Keep the compost moist but not wet.
When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into 8 cm (3.1 in) pots and move the Delphinium plants to cooler conditions. When the risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatize the young plants to outdoor conditions for 7 to 10 days before planting them outside in the ground. Plant the Delphiniums at a distance of 45cm (17.7 in) in moist, fertile, well-worked, and well-drained soil. Delphiniums are sensitive to stagnant moisture. Choose a sunny location sheltered from strong winds. Protect young delphiniums from attacks by slugs and snails.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
