Description

The Viola cornuta 'F1 Sorbet XP Blueberry Sundae' selection of horned violets offers an abundance of flowers in a harmonious palette of blue and white tones. The solid royal blue and pure white flowers are accompanied by wonderful Delft Blue flowers, as if hand-painted. These biennials bloom early in the season and for many months on vigorous plants. Horned violets accompany spring bulbs and bloom at the base of asters, while in rockeries they quickly spread their dark and evergreen carpet. They also allow for charming borders and opulent pots, to be grown in humus-rich soil, in partial shade or dappled sunlight.

Belonging to the violet family, the horned violet, which grows wild in the Pyrenees, is a low-growing perennial plant that has given rise to many hybrids. Often crossed with Viola tricolor (wild pansy), their most famous descendants are the horticultural pansiesThe 'F1 Sorbet XP Blueberry Sundae' selection, from which it originates, produces herbaceous, compact, and creeping plants that reach a height of 10 to 15 cm (5.9 in) when in flower, with dark green, ovate, and serrated evergreen leaves forming a spreading tuft. They are covered in flowers from spring to autumn. Their flowers create a beautiful ensemble of blue and white tones, ranging from violet-blue. They resemble those of small pansies but their petals are arranged differently. The two upper petals are upright, while the other three are inclined downwards. The plants spread quite rapidly thanks to their rhizomes and also self-seed very easily in the garden, not always faithfully.

Horned violets are intended for flowering in low beds and borders, as well as pots and balconies, where they combine well with other spring and summer flowering plants (Forget-me-nots, Dwarf Daffodils, Daisies, Primroses, Botanical Tulips, summer and autumn asters, etc.). The flowers of horned violets are edible, so don't hesitate to decorate your plates with a few or even to add to salads for a touch of colour.

Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant them as soon as possible into pots, or directly into flower beds.

Planting and care

Horned violets appreciate a light, humus-rich soil, moist but well-drained as they do not like excess moisture in winter. In heavy soil, add a bit of sand to improve drainage.

Plant horned violets in a sunny but not scorching site or under light shade.

Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are greedy plants. Feed them with a liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growing season. Water regularly but not excessively. Remove faded flowers to promote new blooms.
