Thanks to Clothilde for the order preparation and Sonia from the shipping department, the received clematis seems healthy to me. Planted close to the 'Dancing Smile' variety, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... (or not?)

Description
The Clematis DANCING KING (‘Zodaki’) is a compact variety remarkable for its double flowers with changing hues. Those in spring are pale mauve to lavender, with lighter shades towards the centre; the second flowering, in late summer, produces smaller double flowers, which can become almost cream-white. Their regular shape, widely open and well displayed, allows one to appreciate all their delicacy. Its small size makes it suitable for modest supports and container growing.
This clematis belongs to the Ranunculaceae family and the horticultural group of early large-flowered clematis. 'Zodaki' is its cultivar name, while DANCING KING is its trade name. It was bred in the Netherlands by Wim Snoeijer, from a cross made in 2000 between 'Mrs George Jackman', an old cream-white variety, and 'Piilu', known for its double pink flowers in spring. The seedling that would become 'Zodaki' was selected in 2004, then registered under the name DANCING KING in 2008. It is a deciduous climber: its foliage falls in autumn, but the base of its stems remains in place during winter. The young shoots lengthen in spring and cling to the fine elements of their support using the leaf petioles. The plant reaches 1 to 1.50 m in height for 50 cm to 1 m in spread, dimensions noticeably smaller than many large-flowered clematis. Its dark green, divided leaves highlight the very light tones of the flowering. In May and June, the rounded flower buds open into more or less double flowers 6 to 10 cm in diameter. Their elliptical sepals, slightly undulate on the edges, are arranged in several ranks. Their colour blends pale mauve, lavender violet and bluish white, around a small centre of yellow stamens, more visible on semi-double flowers. A new flowering appears in August and September on the current year's shoots. The flowers are then smaller, lighter and so pale that they sometimes appear off-white. This ability to produce double flowers during both flowerings is one of the distinctive characters of 'Zodaki'. This variety flowers first on the previous year's wood, then on the new stems. Hardy down to –20 °C, it requires a position sheltered from wind which can damage its flowers.
The Clematis Dancing King can be grown on a small obelisk, a fine trellis or a narrow arch; its moderate growth also suits terrace decoration. In a large container, it can be combined with the miniature rose 'Little White Pet', with its small cream-white roses. In open ground, it can be planted near the herbaceous clematis 'Arabella' which will spread its blue-mauve flowering stems during summer. To cover the soil and provide some shade for the clematis's base, choose for example the Heuchera 'Silver Gumdrop' with its silver and purple foliage and the wall campanula ADANSA 'Purple' with its violet-blue starry flowers. These plants appreciate a well-drained soil that retains some moisture.

Planting and care
Plant Clematis Dancing King from March to May or September to November, in gentle sun or partial shade, in a position sheltered from the wind. It prefers deep, humus-bearing, fertile, moist and well-drained soil. A neutral or slightly lime-bearing soil suits it. It tolerates clay if mixed with compost and draining materials; heavy, compact soil waterlogged in winter, on the other hand, encourages root decline.
Bury the base of the root ball 5 to 8 cm deep and angle the first stems towards the support. Water regularly for the first two seasons, then during dry periods. An organic mulch keeps the soil moist. In a container, use a pot with drainage holes of at least 40 litres and a fertile, aerated, draining substrate.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, etc.)
It will vary according to where you live:- In zones 9 to 10 (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), flowering will occur about 2 to 4 weeks earlier.
- In zones 6 to 7 (Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and lower mountainous regions), flowering will be delayed by 2 to 3 weeks.
- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands).
It will vary according to where you live:
- In Mediterranean zones (Marseille, Madrid, Milan, etc.), autumn and winter are the best planting periods.
- In continental zones (Strasbourg, Munich, Vienna, etc.), delay planting by 2 to 3 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 2 to 4 weeks in autumn.
- In mountainous regions (the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, etc.), it is best to plant in late spring (May-June) or late summer (August-September).
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
