The Morning Mist English rose, is a very different English rose, due to its large single flowers like wild roses, in a unique colour that celebrates the colours of dawn; an intense salmon-orange, revealing a small yellow heart populated with long red stamens with golden anthers. Particularly healthy and vigorous, this large bush also produces an abundance of large orange, decorative hips in autumn. This large bush is light and airy and a true ornament for a natural, flamboyant and long-flowering hedge.
Â
This Morning Mist rose is a complex hybrid resulting from Rosa x alba, the white rose, itself being a hybrid long-known and cultivated since the Renaissance. Its parentage is uncertain. Morning Mist also has floribunda genes, which give it an excellent ability to bloom again, in successive waves, from June to October-November. It forms a superb bush with a spread and informal habit of 1.80m (5.9ft) in height by 2m (6.6ft) in width if not pruned. The fully open flowers are very large, measuring from 7 to 9cm (3.5in) in diameter. They have only 5 petals, arranged in a wide-open cup, and repeat flower above a very healthy satin foliage. Topped with dark pink, the pointed buds open into corollas of an intense salmon-orange colour, with a yellow zone at the throat and red stamens. They have a light fragrance, evoking clove and musk. The flowering gives way to the formation of large hips of a very beautiful orange hue. Its foliage is bright green, dense, and very healthy. It is a very disease-resistant variety and very hardy.
Â
This rose forms a large bush, ideal for creating a backdrop, at the back of perennial or light annual flower beds such as paniculate baby's breath, tall phlox, or foxgloves. It does not mind competition from the roots of other plants, which allows it to be associated with a flowering shrub bed, the sumptuous foliage of purple Cotinus 'Grace', feathered Euonymus, or even a hedge. It is easy to associate in the garden and particularly suitable for slightly wild scenes. Like the Rosa chinensis mutabilis rose, which is certainly less hardy, or the 'The Alexandra Rose' rose, it provides a changing, magical, and charming bouquet. If you have enough space, English, Old or Shrub Roses are beautiful planted in groups of three. They will grow together to form 'one' opulent bush that will flower even more generously.
Bred by David Austin in 1996.

Botanical data
Plant your Morning Mist English Rose in a sunny or lightly shaded location. English roses are tolerant, but they do not like excessive lime. They will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and rich enough. To plant your rose, work the soil well, crumble the earth and add fertiliser, such as fish, blood and bone, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water abundantly after planting to remove any air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. Pruning English roses is essential for flowering. At the end of winter, shorten the branches to 3-5 buds above the ground (at the lowest point), choosing a bud that points outward for a more elegant habit. Also prune to remove dead wood and unsightly branches. Pruning cuts should be at an angle, above a bud. Deadhead regularly to stimulate the development of other buds.
Roses are often marked or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose, it is a natural phenomenon.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
