Received promptly, moist root ball. Already replanted, awaiting spring to potentially bloom. As the plant is young, it will likely need some time.

Description

Hydrangea arborescens 'Hayes Starburst' produces an abundance of flowers from June until the first frosts. Its double flowers emerge light green before turning cream-white when mature. The flowers measure up to 20cm (8in) in diameter.

It can be planted in cold regions as it renews its floral buds all season and does not fear late spring frosts. It adapts to most good soil, even non-acidic ones.

Planting and care

This hydrangea requires a sunny or partially shaded location. It prefers humus-bearing soil. Plant it in deeply worked soil. A good base fertiliser (horn or dehydrated blood) will promote the recovery of your young plant and will feed it without risk of burning. If your soil tends to be dry, mix our water retainer, stockosorb, with the soil and plan a surface watering bowl. The plant is perpetual, so you can cut the faded flowers regularly in summer. At the end of summer, leave the dry flowers on the plant as they will protect the terminal shoots in winter. Remove the dry flowers at the end of February or at the first sign of good weather.
