Description

Calathea 'Medaillon', commonly known as the peacock plant or rose-painted calathea, is a variety adorned with bold patterns in soft hues. A pale inner border creates the illusion of a second leaf within its large rounded leaf, featuring a lighter design showcasing various shades of green. Originating from the tropics, Calatheas bring a touch of exoticism and vibrant colour to your home.

Belonging to the Marantaceae family, Calathea roseopicta 'Medaillon' (now named Goeppertia veitchiana 'Medaillon') originates from the humid forests of the Amazon, where it thrives under the dense canopy. This variety is a cultivar selected for its stunning foliage. Its large, rounded leaves display intricate patterns in varying shades of green and creamy white. Like other calatheas, its leaves fold up at night, a phenomenon known as nyctinasty. It prefers indirect, filtered light, as direct sunlight may scorch its delicate leaves. Keep it away from south-facing windows—it thrives in north-facing spots. Adequate ambient humidity is essential for healthy foliage growth.

Calathea 'Medaillon' is unparalleled for enhancing spaces like the living room, bedroom, or office, provided the right conditions are met. To create a harmonious setting, pair it with plants sharing similar needs, such as the variegated Maranta leuconeura or tricoloured Stromanthe sanguinea 'Triostar'.
