Description

Philodendron White Measure or 'Birkin' is a refined, yet easy to care for houseplant, prized for its dark green leaves adorned with striking cream-white streaks. Its compact clumping habit and luminosity work wonders in a contemporary, minimalist, or boho-chic interior. Placed on a shelf or console, it draws all eyes with its sophisticated appearance. Position it in a bright spot, but away from direct sunlight to preserve the brilliance of its foliage.

Philodendron 'Birkin' belongs to the Araceae family. It is a horticultural cultivar that emerged from spontaneous mutation, likely related to Philodendron 'Rojo Congo'. This tropical perennial with evergreen foliage has a dense habit, forming a clump of leaves that will reach 40 to 80 cm in height and 50 to 70 cm in spread, depending on growing conditions. Its leaves are broad, ovate, and leathery; they measure up to 20 cm long. The surface features distinct white veins and irregular streaks that evolve with the leaf's age. With slow growth, this is a low-maintenance plant. Philodendron is toxic to pets and humans if ingested, due to the presence of calcium oxalate crystals.
The Philodendron genus originates from the tropical forests of South America, where it grows in the shade of tall trees, in a warm and humid environment. These conditions explain its need for filtered sunlight and ambient humidity.

Philodendron 'White Measure' fits perfectly in a living room, office, or even a bedroom if provided with sufficient light and a not-too-dry atmosphere. Its compact habit and architectural foliage make this variety a versatile decorative element.
