More information

A rarely found cultivar on the market with attractive foliage splashed and speckled in soft pink. It has a creeping habit as a liana that can be left either to trail from a hanging basket or pot, or trained to climb up a support. The more light the plant receives, the pinker its leaves will become. This Syngonium thrives in bright but indirect light and prefers high ambient humidity. It flourishes in well-drained soil rich in organic matter, at temperatures between 18 and 24°C.

Description

The Syngonium 'Pink Splash' nicknamed 'Goosefoot' is a beautifully variegated cultivar. Its green leaves are randomly speckled or variegated with small or large soft pink spots. You can train it to climb up a support or let it cascade gracefully from a hanging basket. To maintain the vibrancy of its colours, place it in a bright spot without direct sunlight and ensure adequate ambient humidity.

Belonging to the Araceae family, the Syngonium 'Pink Splash' is a horticultural cultivar derived from the Syngonium podophyllum species. The Syngonium genus includes around 36 species native to the humid tropical forests of Central and South America, particularly from Mexico to Brazil. This plant has an either climbing or trailing liana habit and exhibits rapid growth. Compact in size, it typically reaches 60 cm in height and 45 cm in spread at maturity. Indoors, the Pink Splash will thrive in bright but indirect light, high ambient humidity, and well-drained soil to best replicate its natural conditions. It adapts to average household humidity levels, but humidity above 60% will promote healthier foliage and reduce the likelihood of browning of the leaf edges.

The Syngonium 'Pink Splash' is a versatile plant that complements various interior décor styles. In a bohemian setting, its colourful leaves add a touch of light and airiness. It cascades beautifully from a pot on a shelf or a hanging planter. Alternatively, you can train it to climb up a support. If you collect plants, pair it with species like the Philodendron 'Brasil' and Pothos 'Marble Queen', which share similar light and humidity requirements.

Location

Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf scorching on the Syngonium Pink Splash, as well as cold draughts. Maintenance and care

Water when the substrate is dry on the surface. In winter, reduce the watering frequency. Mist the foliage regularly to maintain high ambient humidity.

Potting advice, substrates and fertilisers

Repot in spring every 1 to 2 years or when the roots start to outgrow the pot.
Use a well-draining compost enriched with organic matter, ideally mixed with clay pebbles or perlite to promote aeration and prevent waterlogging.
Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser for green plants, applied every 2 to 3 weeks during the growth period (spring and summer). Reduce the frequency in autumn and winter.

Houseplant care

Undemanding, this plant simply requires removing yellowed leaves and wiping dusty leaves with a damp cloth to maintain their shine.
Prune the stems regularly to encourage branching and maintaining a compact or climbing shape according to your preference.

Disease and pest advice

In case of a mealybug attack, use a cotton pad soaked in alcohol to remove them, then spray a soapy water solution to prevent further infestation.
