Description
The Match Corn Salad is a hardy and compact variety with large, sweet-flavored leaves. Resistant to both cold and heat, this Corn Salad with its large seeds offers great versatility and high-quality production for a good part of the year. It can be planted from late summer to winter, for a harvest from autumn until the end of winter.
Corn Salad, also known as "Lamb's Lettuce", is a small salad with rounded leaves grouped in rosettes. It is THE salad for autumn and winter, even though some varieties known as "all-season" varieties, like Match, can be sown and harvested throughout the year. Varieties with large seeds have larger leaves but are less cold-resistant than those with small seeds.
Corn Salad belongs to the Caprifoliaceae family (like Honeysuckle) and grows wild throughout Europe, to the point that it is sometimes considered a "weed".
This little salad is mostly consumed raw, on its own or accompanied, for example, by kiwi and avocado or beetroot, but it can also be cooked, like spinach. It has remarkable nutritional value, being low in calories but particularly rich in vitamin C (three times more than Lettuce), vitamin E, and beta-carotene.
Growing Corn Salad is easy, but the sowing must be done in firm soil and it is important to ensure that the soil remains moist.
Harvest: Corn Salad is harvested as needed by cutting the rosette just above the collar with a knife.
Storage: It can be kept for a few days in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator.
Gardener's Tip: If you belong to the category of gardeners who tolerate a bit of disorder even in the vegetable garden, don't hesitate, in spring, to let a few rosettes go to seed. They will self-sow and provide you with some greenery on your plate without any cost or effort!

The côte in young plants is planted from late summer until winter, never in spring to avoid it going to seed. It is not demanding and does not require any prior fertilization. The varieties intended for winter cultivation are hardy but up to a certain point... During harsh winters, remember to protect them from extreme cold by covering them with a winter veil or a layer of straw.
It is a salad that grows very well in a cold greenhouse or under a Nantes tunnel.
As for association, the côte is a good neighbor. You can sow it at the foot of many vegetables and interplant it between the ranks of Escarole, Spinach, Radish...
