Our selection of fast-growing shrubs, featuring evergreen or deciduous varieties ideal for quickly creating a hedge, structuring a garden, or screening a view. Among the must-haves is Photinia x fraseri 'Red Robin' with its evergreen foliage and vibrant red young shoots, perfect for forming dense, colourful hedges. Prunus laurocerasus (cherry laurel), particularly varieties like 'Novita', is also prized for its glossy green foliage and rapid growth, making it an excellent choice for a privacy hedge. The butterfly bush (Buddleja davidii), known for its abundant summer flowering and its ability to attract butterflies, is another popular option for flowering hedges. Privet, especially Ligustrum ovalifolium (California privet), with its fast growth and dense semi-evergreen foliage, is often used to create low-maintenance hedges.
Salix integra 'Hakuro-Nishiki' (flamingo willow) is a fast-growing deciduous bush, very ornamental thanks to its variegated pink and white foliage. Forsythia, famous for its yellow spring flowers, is a vigorous bush that grows quickly and withstands frequent pruning. A staple in mild climates, oleander (Nerium oleander) offers generous summer flowering and thrives rapidly, even in coastal areas and dry soil. Elaeagnus or silverberries are bushy, small trees, evergreen or deciduous, with such vigorous growth that they require two annual prunings.
Regular watering during the first year helps these bushes establish strong roots. After two or three years of cultivation, they will already make a striking impact in the garden.
