Pink Begonia grandiflora - Begonia bulbs

Begonia grandiflora Rose is a variety with large development, offering large and beautiful double flowers, reminiscent of camellias, in a vibrant, pure, and very cheerful pink. It is superb in shaded areas, in pots or in the ground. Its fleshy foliage and its appearance of a large floral cushion often make it used as a border plant, in pots or hanging.

The Begonia grandiflora Rose belongs to the Begoniaceae family, it is part of the tuberous hybrid begonias, whose parents mainly come from the Andean tropical forests. It is a cultivar that blooms tirelessly from July to October. It reaches a maturity of 40cm (16in) in all directions. This begonia shows a compact tuft or large cushion habit. Its foliage is deciduous, fleshy, dark green, with very serrated edges. The laminae are always asymmetrical and have a waxy texture; the petioles have stipules at their base. The stems of this begonia are fleshy and brittle. Its large flowers, with a minimum diameter of 6cm (2in), are round and perfectly formed, composed of pleated petals like crepe paper. After flowering, the plant enters dormancy and its vegetation dries up. The tubers will be cultivated like those of Dahlias.

Begonias are unrivalled for decorating shaded areas. They are also comfortable in well-maintained flower beds, in the company of lighter flowers, as well as being cultivated in pots on the terrace or in hanging baskets. This superb variety will be perfectly highlighted in hanging baskets in the winter garden or in the conservatory. Finally, it is good to know that there are hardy begonias, such as Begonia grandis.
