Description

Ornithogalum Namib Sun is a perennial bulbous plant that flowers in June. The flowering consists of clusters of numerous cup-shaped, decorative, yellow flowers.

The flowers have 6 large petals and 6 stamens on tall stems. With age, they take on a star-shaped form. The flowers measure 2 to 3 cm (1in) wide. The deciduous leaves of this Ornithogalum are long, from 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12in).

The Namib Sun variety has robust and vigorous growth. It can reach a height of up to 50 cm (20in) at maturity. The Ornithogalum is not hardy and must be overwintered frost-free. It can be planted in borders or pots. Its flowers can be cut for beautiful bouquets.

Planting and care

The Namib Sun Ornithogalum thrives in a sunny location and will also grow in partial shade. Plant it 10 cm (4in) deep in the autumn in a fairly fertile and well-drained soil. Space the bulbs 7/8 cm (3in) apart. After flowering, keep the bulbs warm and protected from winter frost. This variety has no specific enemies or diseases.
