Description

Triteleia 'Rudy' produces in early summer a swarm of small white flowers with dark blue stars.

Triteleia 'Rudy' flowers from June to July, depending on the region. It produces short umbel inflorescences 20-25cm (8-10in) in height, at the end of which beautiful upright bell-shaped flowers bloom.

Small bulbous plants originating from western United States, Triteliea, formerly known as Brodiaea, belong to the garlic family. They produce a mass of slender leaves in spring and wither just before flowering. From late spring or early summer, depending on the variety, short and slender umbel inflorescences emerge from the ground. They bear beautiful graphic funnel-shaped flowers in blue, white, yellow or pink.

Quite hardy, -10°C (14°F) in well-drained soil, grow it in full sun (partial shade in hotter regions), in a rockery, or on the edge of a dry garden alongside catmints, Stipa and Pennisetums.

Planting and care

Very hardy, Triteleia 'Rudy' doesn't appreciate too much competition. Prefer an open, sunny and sheltered location for it. It likes well-drained, rocky or sandy soils, moist in spring and dry in summer. Don't hesitate to plant it directly in pure sand, its hardiness will only benefit from it.
