Description
Buddleja davidii Rêve de Papillon® Blue ('Srp18blu20') is a summer-flowering shrub that is generous and long-lasting. This butterfly bush captivates with its large panicles of fragrant dark blue flowers, which attract butterflies and pollinators from July to September. Its naturally bushy habit, good branching and moderate development (approximately 2 m tall in open ground) suit small gardens, shrub borders and flowering hedges, or pots on the terrace.
Buddleja Rêve de Papillon® Blue is a shrub from the Scrophulariaceae family. This cultivar 'Srp18blu20' is a sterile horticultural creation developed by Star Roses & Plants, an American company specialising in the selection of ornamental plants. It was introduced to the European market by Hortival Diffusion. The Rêve de Papillon® series brings together varieties selected for their floribundus nature and their compact, well-branched habit from the base. These plants, which do not produce seeds, are not invasive, they stay in their place!
Buddleja davidii Rêve de Papillon® Blue 'Srp18blu20' is a shrub with a bushy, well-branched habit that develops flexible stems. In open ground, it reaches approximately 2 m in height with a 1.5 m spread after 10 years of cultivation. In a pot, its size is generally reduced, around 1.20 m to 1.50 m in height, depending on the growing conditions. With rapid growth, it establishes itself quickly in landscape designs. The flowers are tightly packed on long terminal panicles of 25-30 cm, they are dark blue to lavender blue and emit a sweet, sugary fragrance. The flowering period extends from July to September. The foliage is formed of opposite, lanceolate, 10 to 15 cm long leaves, with an entire margin, blue-green on the upper side and paler underneath. The leaves are deciduous; they fall in autumn and reappear in spring. The stems are quadrangular, light brown, and become more woody with age. The bark is smooth on young shoots and becomes slightly fissured on older branches.
This cultivar is hardy down to -20°C.
Buddleja Rêve de Papillon Blue, superb in a large container on the terrace, is an ornamental bush that easily fits in any garden, even when space is limited. It integrates into a shrub border and looks good in a flowering hedge. Its association with large weigelas like 'Rosea' or 'Alexandra', Vitex and shrubby English roses such as 'The Ancient Mariner' is interesting for animating the garden until late summer.

Planting and care
Buddleja Rêve de Papillon® Blue is easy to grow, as it is an undemanding plant regarding soil, very hardy and not water-greedy. It enjoys sunny spots but also flowers in partial shade.
Plant it in spring or early autumn in ordinary soil, even chalky and poor, but well-worked, well-loosened and properly drained. Once well-established in open ground, the plant will tolerate periods of moderate drought.
However, if grown in a pot or container, you should water it regularly and provide fertiliser for flowering bushes. Buddleja has no significant pests. Nevertheless, beware of caterpillars, vine weevils, bugs and red spider mites that can invade it under certain conditions.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, etc.)
It will vary according to where you live:- In zones 9 to 10 (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), flowering will occur about 2 to 4 weeks earlier.
- In zones 6 to 7 (Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and lower mountainous regions), flowering will be delayed by 2 to 3 weeks.
- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
