Never a single flower has grown, the bulbs were already dry upon receipt, very disappointed.

Description

The Intense Assortment of Dahlias brings together 6 selected varieties of dahlias for the beauty and uniqueness of their flowerings. Their flowers, with varying shapes such as waterlily, campanulate, or pompom, bloom abundantly for 4 months, from July until the first frost. Their precious, brilliant, refined, rare, elegant, or baroque colors allow for endless possibilities of magnificent floral compositions, according to each individual's taste.

This assortment consists of:

-1x 'Marble Ball' Ball Dahlia: flowers of 10 cm (4in) that are quite astonishing, truly unique, resembling large round balls, entirely striated and streaked with garnet, purple, and mauve, on a white-cream background. This medium-sized dahlia reaches a height of about 90 cm (35in). Award-winning variety.

-1x 'Genova' Ball Dahlia: flowers of 8 cm (3in), perfectly round, composed of multiple petals or ligules in light pink bordered by purple, turning to pale purple, around a center of purplish violet. The compact plant reaches a height of about 70 cm (28in). Its stems are reddish.

-1x 'Dark Spirit' Pompon Dahlia: its pompom-shaped flowers, with a diameter of 6 cm (2in), have a silky texture and are of a dark mahogany color, with chocolate or purple reflections, appearing almost black depending on the lighting. They bloom in abundance on tall floral stems, also very dark, reaching a height of 1.20 m (4ft).

-1x 'Karma Maarten Zwaan' Decorative Dahlia: waterlily flowers of rare elegance, delicately colored in ivory white, with wide, slightly incurved petals, 12 cm (5in) in diameter, carried by sturdy stems reaching 80-90 cm (32-35in) in height.

-1x 'Karma Fuchsiana' Decorative Dahlia: a superb plant that doesn't go unnoticed, with 10 cm (4in) flowers resembling double waterlilies, in intense coral pink to fuchsia color. The heart is warmed by a slight touch of orange. The combination of colors is exceptionally vibrant. Versatile, of intermediate height (80 cm (32in)), its sturdy stems do not require any staking.

-1x 'Le Baron' Decorative Dahlia: double and flattened flowers of 14 cm (6in), beautifully formed, reminiscent of camellias. With a satin texture, they are shiny and of a flamboyant violet color, with fuchsia pink and dark pink reflections. The tall floral stems measure up to 1.20 m (4ft) in height.

To encourage continuous flowering, take care to remove faded flowers, or even better, regularly make large colorful bouquets by combining them with other varieties. The dahlias that make up this magnificent assortment pair particularly well with pale pink, white, purple, violet, or mauve flowers. In flower beds or in your bouquets, associate them with Asters for example, or with roses (Iceberg, Love Song, Botticelli, Nautica) that bloom at the same time. Also consider catmints, and campanulas, as their light and delicate flowerings enhance the opulent flowers of dahlias.

As the star of borders and cottage gardens, dahlias confidently accompany the most beautiful flowers but are also appreciated alongside vegetable plants. In Mexico, this tuberous plant was initially cultivated as a root vegetable for consumption. However, its poor taste assigned it the rank of an ornamental plant. Since then, the interest in their beautiful exuberance has never waned.

Planting and care

Plant your dahlias during the warm days of spring in a deeply worked and enriched soil, for example with crushed bone or dehydrated blood. Place your tuber and crumble the soil well to fill it without any air pockets. Your dahlia should be covered with 6 cm (2in) of soil. At the end of the planting, pour a litre of water. Water regularly during the first 6 weeks to help with rooting. Dahlias are sensitive to cold, so they need to be overwintered. In November, the first frosts will blacken the foliage, indicating it's time to dig them up. Carefully unearth the tubers, removing as much soil as possible. Let the foliage dry so that the tuber can replenish its reserves. When the foliage is dry, cut the stems to 10 cm (4in) from the tuber. Spread your bulbs on newspaper in a box. Store in a frost-free, dry, cool, and dark place.
