Description

This 3 Dahlias collection brings together three varieties chosen for their precious colors, where baroque meets romanticism. Whether in flower beds or in a vase, combine their beautiful pompom flowers shaped like honeycombs with old roses, for example. These Dahlias bloom generously from July until the first frost.

This collection consists of:

-1x 'Marble Ball' Dahlia: astonishing 10 cm (4in) flowers, truly unique, resembling large, completely striped and streaked garnet, purple, and mauve balls on a cream-white background. This medium-sized dahlia reaches a height of about 90 cm (35in). Award-winning variety.

-1x Dahlia 'Genova': 8 cm (3in) flowers, round in shape, composed of multiple light pink petals bordered by purple-pink, fading to pale purple, around a purple-violet center. The compact plant reaches a height of about 70 cm (28in). Its stems are more or less reddish.

-1x Dahlia 'Dark Spirit': pompom-shaped flowers, 6 cm (2in) in diameter, with silky texture and dark mahogany color, displaying chocolate or purple reflections and appearing almost black depending on the lighting. They bloom in abundance on tall, also very dark, floral stems reaching a height of 1.20 m (4ft).

To encourage floral reblooming, take care to remove faded flowers, or even better, regularly make large colorful bouquets by combining them with other varieties. The dahlias in this collection go particularly well with pale pink, white, or mauve flowers. In flower beds or in your bouquets, associate them with Asters, for example, or with roses (Iceberg, Love Song, Botticelli, Nautica) that bloom at the same time.

As a star plant in borders and herb gardens, Dahlias confidently accompany the most beautiful flowers but are also appreciated alongside vegetable plants. In Mexico, this tuberous plant was first cultivated as a root vegetable for consumption. However, its poor flavour assigned it the status of an ornamental plant. Since then, the interest in their beautiful exuberance has never waned.

Planting and care

Plant your dahlias in the springtime in soil that has been deeply worked and enriched, for example, with crushed bone or dehydrated blood. Place your tuber and crumble the soil well to fill without any air pockets. Your dahlia should be covered with 6 cm (2in) of soil. At the end of planting, pour one litre of water. Water regularly during the first 6 weeks to assist with rooting. Dahlias are sensitive to cold, so they need to be overwintered under protection. In November, the first frosts will blacken the foliage, which is the time to dig them up. Carefully unearth the tubers. Remove as much soil as possible. Let the foliage dry so that the tuber can replenish its reserves. When the foliage is dry, cut the stems 10 cm (4in) from the tuber. Spread your bulbs on newspaper in a box. Store in a frost-free, dry, cool, and dark place.
