Description

Calla or Zantedeschia aethiopica 'Green Goddess' is a hardy hybrid of the white Arum that you can find in all ancient gardens.

It is magnificent for its large green flowers (spathes) veined with white, reaching a height of 25cm (10in).

Originating from South Africa, it requires very moist soil. It even enjoys having its feet in the water. It is sensitive to severe frosts. It is quite delicate to cultivate, but it will reward you with the elegance of its trendy green and white flowers, whether on the terrace in a pot, in the garden, or in a bouquet.

Planting and care

Plant your bulbs from March to April, at a depth of 12cm (5in), spaced 15cm (6in) apart, in a moist location. Apply organic fertilizer at planting and at least once a year. Cultivating in large pots is possible, ensuring regular watering to keep the soil moist, with fertilizer applied every 2 months during growth. Mulch them at the first signs of cold, as they are susceptible to frost and are moderately hardy north of the Loire. In pots, store them away during winter. In a few years, they will form beautiful flowering clumps from May to August. You can trim the foliage after the first frost.
