Unfortunately, they arrived in a sorry state and did not recover at all. I think it's best not to buy this type of product during "end-of-sale" periods.

More information

A lovely habit, both bushy and spreading, a beautiful range of peach to orange-pink tones, an early and endless flowering; these are the assets of this lovely annual plant that works wonders in hanging baskets, summer compositions, and rockeries. In flower all summer, vigorous and robust, it enjoys warm and sunny exposures and prefers a period of drought rather than an excess of water.

Description

The Verbena 'Superbena Royale Peachy Keen' is a hybrid Verbena perfectly suited for balcony and hanging basket decoration. Vigorous, floriferous, and with a very attractive habit that is rounded, compact, and slightly spreading, it is also suitable for borders and rockeries, where it flowers generously, earlier than other verbenas, and until the first frost. 'Royale Peachy Keen' also stands out for the delightful colour of its flower umbels, adopting various shades of pink-orange, from light to deep, ranging from peach to salmon pink and coral pink. Water-efficient and heat-tolerant, this lovely verbena is essential in summer compositions.

The 'Royale Peachy Keen' Verbena belongs to the Verbenaceae family and is an horticultural hybrid whose ancestors lived in the warm regions of South America. It tirelessly produces erect, gracefully cascading stems from early summer until the first frost, which lengthen as dense clusters of tiny orange flowers resembling phlox bloom. This perennial plant succumbs to frost and is grown as an annual in our climate, thanks to its rapid growth.

The Verbena Superbena Royale quickly develops numerous branching stems that form a compact yet slightly upright tuft, barely cascading, 25 cm (9.8 in) tall with a spread of 40 to 50 cm. These stems are covered with dark green, rough, and hairy small leaves measuring 2 cm (0.8 in) long. The highly pronounced veins and strongly toothed margins give them a textured appearance. From early summer, multiple tiny flowers appear. They are grouped in umbels, forming beautiful and ever-changing colourful bouquets that last a long time and will continue to bloom until the first frost. They display various shades, always within the range of pink-orange. Some are pale and close to flesh tones, while others have deeper hues, ranging from peach to tea to coral. The faded flowers of this hybrid variety fall off by themselves, allowing the plant to maintain a tidy appearance throughout the season.

Essential for decorating the surroundings of the house, window sills, the front of borders, and all hanging baskets, the 'Superbena Royale Peachy Keen' Verbena offers a solid and long-lasting flowering display in various shades. It only requires occasional deadheading to remove faded flowers and won't mind if you forget to water it from time to time. Paired with Diascias, Nemesias, and Osteospermums, it can create ensembles with different volumes and habits while staying within the same colour range if you wish to maintain that palette. If you prefer contrast, place it near dark blue Verbenas and Salvias with violet reflections, or pair it with purple flowers (Lobelia Crocus Star) or white ones.

Note: Attention, our young plants in mini-pots are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant the 'Superbena Royale Peachy Keen' Verbena in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant it in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (verbenas can tolerate a light late frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot or container in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth.

Plant your verbenas in a sunny location. They need well-draining soil. They tolerate drought in the ground, but require regular watering in pots. Water regularly but not excessively. Highly floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking their best and extend the flowering period.
