Ordered for many years, this begonia is extraordinary in pots or in the ground. Not fragile to the weather, it reaches a nice height without a support. Personally, I find the pink colour more beautiful. Thanks to all.

Description

The Tender Pink Begonia Big F1 is a particularly impressive variety of annual begonia for mass planting, which is as appealing for its opulent, erect and bushy habit as for its 8 cm wide flowers in a tender pink shade warmed by a tiny yellow heart. They appear from spring and only disappear with the return of frost, which also signals the plant's disappearance. This variety resists rain and bad weather and requires no pruning or pinching. It can be adopted without hesitation in containers or mass plantings, in full sun or partial shade.

The Tender Pink Begonia Big F1 is a non-hardy herbaceous perennial plant, grown as an annual, belonging to the Begoniaceae family, and originating from several species native to Brazil. This variety is part of a series of recent hybrids selected for their erect, vigorous and bushy habit, their floribundity, as well as for their very vibrant colours. 'Big F1 Pink Green Leaves' has tender and fleshy stems, covered with tough, rounded leaves of a beautiful fresh green colour, shiny, about 5 cm (2 in) long. This highly branched plant will quickly reach 70 to 80 cm (31.5 in) in height and 40 cm (15.7 in) in diameter. Appearing in May-June and present until the first frost, its abundant flowers are large and single, cup-shaped, composed of 4 rounded petals, in a very bright light pink shade. They are gathered in numerous terminal clusters and bloom among elegant foliage. The plant tolerates partial shade and sun, as well as rainy and cool summers, which do not prevent it from flowering. It also shows good drought tolerance.

Begonias are ideal for full sun, but can also be placed in partial shade. They can be used in mass plantings, in troughs, balconies or large flower pots. The Big F1 series begonias pair well with light foliage and flower plants, such as lobelias, bacopas, bidens, as well as petunias. In a more exotic spirit, a colorful mass planting can be created by combining the Tender Pink Begonia Big F1 with cannas or hedychiums. Finally, it is good to know that there are hardy begonias, such as Begonia grandis.

Note: Please note that our young plants in mini pots are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before being placed outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

The Begonia Big F1 soft pink blooms from May until the first frosts. It is placed in a well-drained, fertile, humus-rich and light, moist but not waterlogged soil, in full sun or partial shade. Moderate watering is recommended (it does not tolerate excess water!) and frequent fertiliser application for intense flowering. During the growing season, it is useful to provide fertiliser for flowering plants every week. Beware of snails and slugs that love to devour young plants. Begonia semperflorens can be susceptible to powdery mildew and botrytis. Begonia is a frost-sensitive plant, so it does not tolerate negative temperatures. For this reason, it is often cultivated in containers that can be easily brought indoors in greenhouses or heated conservatories at the first signs of frost.
