Upon arrival, the young plants looked in very good condition, so I am pleased. I can't wait to see their flowers.

Description

The Begonia 'Summerwings Pink Elegance' is a latest generation variety, distinguished by its unmatched vigour and floribundity. This annual plant has a semi-trailing and highly branched habit, making it ideal for hanging baskets and containers. It quickly forms a dense cluster of green foliage and very pure hot pink flowers in elongated corollas. Not demanding, braving wind and cool climates, the plant flowers immediately and continuously from summer to autumn, almost maintenance-free.

The Begonia 'Summerwings Pink Elegance' is an herbaceous annual plant belonging to the Begoniaceae family. This variety is part of a series of recent hybrids selected for their rapid growth, floribundity, compact and trailing habit, as well as their very pure colours. 'Pink Elegance' will quickly reach a height of 30 cm (11.8 in) and a diameter of 40 cm (15.7 in). Appearing in June and lasting until the first frost, its flowers are simple, elongated, composed of petals in the shape of wings, with a bright orange-pink colour. They are clustered and bloom among elegant, well-formed, oblong and pointed leaves, with a wonderful dark green colour that highlights the flowering. The plant tolerates partial shade and full sun, as well as rainy and cool summers, as well as heatwaves, which do not prevent it from blooming.

The Begonia is ideal for full sun, but can also be placed in partial shade. It can be used in containers, hanging baskets or as a trailing plant. The Summerwings Begonias pair well with Impatiens and lobelias. Begonias are also at ease in well-maintained flower beds, alongside lighter flowers, as well as when grown in pots on the terrace. Finally, it is good to know that there are hardy begonias, such as Begonia grandis.

Note: Please be aware that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, repot and store them in shelters (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before being planted outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

The Begonia 'Summerwings Pink Elegance' flowers from June until the first frost. It is placed in well-drained, fertile, moist soil, in full sun or partial shade. Moderate watering should be done (it does not tolerate excess water!) and frequent fertilisation for intense flowering. The Begonia Summerwings may be susceptible to powdery mildew. The Begonia is a frost-sensitive plant, therefore it does not tolerate negative temperatures. For this reason, it is often cultivated in containers that can be easily brought indoors into heated greenhouses or under a conservatory at the first frost. If it is planted in the ground, lift and store indoors until the following spring.
