Description

Begonia Dragon Wing White is a remarkable annual begonia, always covered in single white flowers, faintly tinged with pink. Gathered in elegant clusters, these trailing flowers add a refined and luminous touch to planters, pots, hanging baskets, and flower beds. Its bright green, glossy, and perfectly healthy foliage enhances the plant's beauty.

Belonging to a line of interspecific hybrids between Brazilian species, Begonia Dragon Wing® White is part of the begonia family. Grown as an annual, this cultivar has been selected for its enhanced resistance to sun and heat, its long and continuous flowering, and its lush, cushion-like appearance. Its fleshy stems bear leathery, heart-shaped, and slightly winged, bright, glossy green leaves, reinforcing its exotic allure. From May-June, this vigorous plant is adorned with abundant flowers that renew themselves until the first frosts, without requiring tedious maintenance, as the faded flowers drop naturally. This vigorous variety quickly forms a balanced clump of 30 to 40 cm in height and width.

Begonia Dragon Wing® White adapts to various exposures. Placed in partial or dappled shade, it reaches its full potential with harmonious growth and abundant flowers. In full sun, it adopts a more compact habit, its leaves become smaller and may display coppery or reddish hues. Capable of enduring temporary drought, this begonia requires minimal care. It can be paired with light and airy plants such as annual lobelias, bacopas, or bidens. This variety can also be combined with petunias or morning glories with black foliage, which will highlight its white clusters washed with pink. With its impeccable habit, uninterrupted flowering, and vigorous growth, 'Dragon Wing White' stands out as a must-have throughout the growing season.

Note: Please be aware that plug plants are products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (conservatory, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before placing them outdoors once the risk of frost has completely passed.

Planting and care

Begonia Dragon Wing White flowers from May until the first frosts. It thrives in well-drained, fertile, humus-bearing and light soil, which should be moist but not waterlogged, in full sun, partial shade or even full shade. Choose large containers, and allow for a spacing of at least 50 cm in flower beds. The plant requires warmth to develop well and is extremely tolerant of high temperatures. It also withstands drought very well, and if you forget to water it, even in midsummer, it will reduce its growth and flowering, while its leaves will take on a very light green hue. Once watering resumes, it will recover without issue. Water moderately (it cannot tolerate excess water, especially in spring and autumn!) and feed frequently for intense flowering. During the growing season, it is beneficial to apply flowering plant fertiliser every week. Be wary of snails and slugs, which love to devour young plants. This variety is resistant to fungal diseases. Begonia is a frost-tender plant and cannot tolerate sub-zero temperatures.

Warning: Begonia Dragon Wing does not survive indoors.
