These young plants didn't take well at my place, unlike the same variety bought here in the past. I'm quite disappointed; only one out of five has taken and seems to be languishing, as seen in the photo I tried to upload.

Description

This Begonia boliviensis Fragrant Falls Peach, like all its siblings in the Fragrant series, is a deliciously scented, floriferous variety with a pretty semi-trailing habit, absolutely perfect for ornamental containers and hanging baskets. It quickly forms a cascade of beautiful toothed leaves, on which numerous large, delicately coloured peach-pink double flowers bloom. Easy to grow, it flowers for a very long period in partial shade.

The Begonia 'Fragrant Falls Peach' is an annual herbaceous plant with a tuberous root belonging to the Begoniaceae family. This variety is part of a series of recent hybrids selected for their abundant scented flowering, their branching and trailing habit, as well as their ease of cultivation. 'Fragrant Falls Peach' will quickly reach a height of 25-30 cm (9.8 - 11.8 in) with a diameter of 35 cm (13.8 in) and can cascade up to 50-60 cm. Appearing in June and lasting until the first frost, its flowers are bell-shaped doubles, composed of soft peach-pink petals with a yellow heart. They are clustered together and bloom among elegant elongated, glossy leaves with strongly toothed edges. The plant prefers partial shade, tolerates not too harsh sunlight, as well as rainy and cool summers, which do not prevent it from flowering.

The Fragrant Falls Begonia is ideal for decorating troughs, balconies, or hanging baskets. Begonias in this series pair well with all shade plants, such as Impatiens and lobelias, for example. These flowers are also comfortable in well-maintained flower beds, alongside lighter flowers, or when grown in pots on the terrace. Lastly, it is good to know that there are hardy begonias, such as the Begonia grandis.

Note: Please be aware that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at temperatures above 14°C for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

The Fragrant Falls Peach trailing Begonia flowers from May-June until the first frost. It is placed in a well-drained, fertile, moist soil in partial shade (a good special geranium compost will be suitable). Moderate watering is required (it does not tolerate excessive water!) and frequent fertilisation for intense flowering. The Begonia may be susceptible to powdery mildew. It is a frost-sensitive plant, therefore it does not tolerate negative temperatures. For this reason, it is often cultivated in pots that can be easily brought indoors to a heated greenhouse or conservatory at the first signs of frost. If planted in the ground, it is time to remove the bulbs and store them in a sheltered place until the following spring.
