Description

Bidens ferulifolia is an annual (semi-hardy in very mild climates) with daisy-like flowers measuring 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) in diameter, and lanceolate, highly cut decorative foliage in golden yellow.

With a rather compact habit, reaching a height of about 30 cm (12in), Bidens plants grow rapidly and are highly floriferous. They are particularly suitable for cultivation in pots, hanging baskets, rockeries, or summer borders. They happily coexist with other annuals, allowing for multiple colour combinations.

Green plants measuring 4 to 8 cm (2 to 3in) in height, in packs of 5 small plugs measuring 2.8 cm (1in) in diameter and 4 cm (2in) in height. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and are strong enough to be planted directly into the ground.

Planting and care

You can plant your Bidens in open ground or in a pot. If you wish to plant them in open ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (Bidens can tolerate a light late frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your Bidens in a sunny location. They need a light and humus-rich soil, but above all, it should be well-draining. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser during the growing season. Usually grown as annuals, they are actually fragile perennials: by bringing them indoors before the first cold weather arrives, you can extend their flowering period throughout autumn and winter.
