Description

This Cracking Fire Million bells petunia is perfect for pots and hanging baskets with its trailing habit. It will also decorate borders and the base of climbing plants.

Million bells petunias are among the most recent cultivars. They are covered in smaller, but numerous flowers. They are more drought-resistant and thrive in sunny locations.

Green plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in plug plant trays with 5 small plugs measuring 2.8cm (1in) in diameter and 4cm (2in) in height, individually labelled. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered area (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your petunias in open ground or in a pot. If you wish to plant them in open ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (surfinia petunias tolerate a small late frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need a light and humus-bearing soil, but above all, well-draining. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer temperatures. Very flower-bearing and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with liquid fertiliser for surfinia petunias once or twice a week during the growth period. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking beautiful and prolong the flowering period.
