Description

This Collection includes 5 trailing Fuchsias with spectacular double trailing flowers of 7 cm (3 in).

In assorted colours of violet, red, pink, and white, they will bloom continuously from June to October. Usually grown as annuals, Fuchsias are perennials that can be grown indoors.

Discovered in the French colony of Saint-Domingue in the 17th century and acclimatised in Europe, they were named Fuchsia (not Fuschia) in honour of a German botanist named Fuchs. Native to South America, botanical Fuchsias have gradually been multiplied. There are now believed to be tens of thousands of hybrids!

Young plants measuring 4 to 8 cm (2 to 3 in) in plug plant trays of 5 small plugs measuring 2.8 cm (1 in) in diameter and 4 cm (2 in) in height. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted outdoors.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in sheltered locations (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame, etc.) at a temperature above 14 °C (57.2 °F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

Plant your fuchsias in a rich, moist and well-drained substrate, in the sun or partial shade. Fuchsias need plenty of light to flower well, but they are afraid of full summer sun. Water regularly (but not excessively), as they fear drought. When grown in a pot, make sure not to leave water in the saucer, as this would cause the roots to rot and the leaves to fall. Feed with a liquid fuchsia fertiliser every 15 days during the growth period. Regularly remove faded flowers and dry leaves. Prune back in autumn after flowering. Fuchsias can also be grown indoors, where they are perennial and evergreen.
