Fuchsia Summer Melody Sunantonio

Fuchsia 'Sumig Xx2' SUMMERMELODY® SUNANTONIO (Pink-White) is a balcony and patio fuchsia brimming with charm, chosen for its abundant, early and long-lasting flowering. Its delicate colour, soft pink washed with white, brightens shady spots in the garden. It is compact and well-branched, perfect in window boxes, flowering pots and small sheltered borders.

This cultivar belongs to the Onagraceae family and bears the valid denomination Fuchsia 'Sumig Xx2'. It is marketed under the name SUMMERMELODY® SUNANTONIO and linked to the SUMMERMELODY® series, a line of compact, floriferous fuchsias suited to pot cultivation or seasonal production. The breeder of this series is G.G.G. Grünewald, in the Netherlands. This cultivar 'Sumig Xx2' was registered in 2007. It is characterised by compact growth, an upright habit, good branching and single flowers. The plant forms a small seasonal shrub about 40 cm tall and 50 cm wide. The single and pendulous flowers have an elongated tube, pale sepals from soft pink to whitish, and a white corolla barely tinged with pink, depending on the stage of opening; the long protruding stamens enhance their delicacy. Flowering extends from May to October, with a peak in summer. The foliage is dark green. The leaves are ovate to lanceolate, finely toothed, and cover the plant well. 
The hardiness of this variety is limited: it may tolerate very light frosts and mostly behaves as a frost-tender plant. In most regions, therefore, it should be regarded as a plant to overwinter indoors.

In a pot, this Summermelody fuchsia goes well with decorative foliage and part-shade flowers. To keep it from year to year, the simplest method is to bring the pot indoors before hard frosts to a bright, cool, frost-free location, significantly reducing watering during winter. You can associate it with Heuchera 'Cherry Cola', Carex oshimensis Everillo®, Plectranthus coleoides 'Variegatus' or Begonia Gumdrop Coco White.
