Description

Impatiens Sunpatiens Compact Hot Lilac is part of a new line of hybrid Impatiens that are highly tolerant to both sunlight and climate. It is also characterized by its compact, ball-shaped habit that does not require pruning. With exceptional floriferousness, this hybrid impatiens is covered in flowers that are a lilac pink colour, almost fluorescent under the summer sun, creating a spectacular display that lasts until the first frost. This tender perennial, grown as an annual in our climates, is also highly resistant to diseases and not easily damaged. Easy to care for and almost maintenance-free, it is an ideal flower for borders and sunny terraces.

The SunPatiens® in the Compact series are the result of hybridization work that has developed plants resistant and floriferous from New Guinea Impatiens. Belonging to the Balsaminaceae family, they are perennials that are grown as annuals in our latitudes, as they will not withstand the first frost. However, they have many other advantages, awarded in 2006 in Italy (among others, best bedding plant): they are robust, vigorous, and require no maintenance. Their compact, ball-shaped habit allows for a beautiful rounded effect without pruning, reaching a height of 40cm (16in) and a minimum spread of 30cm (12in). Their numerous leaves are green and shiny, oval-shaped and pointed at the tip. From late spring, multiple flowers appear and continue to bloom until autumn. They measure 4 to 5cm (2in) in diameter and consist of five heart-shaped petals, widely spread. Their pink colour with lilac highlights is particularly bright and sparkling. It coordinates with many other colours to create vibrant and joyful compositions. It is also a plant with unique characteristics: studies have shown that they have the ability to absorb harmful gases and lower the ambient temperature. They are therefore considered depolluting or purifying plants.

In containers on the terrace or in pots near entrances, the 'SunPatiens® Compact Hot Lilac' offer you abundant and carefree floriferousness, with the only requirement being regular watering during hot and dry periods. Preferring cool and rich soils, they will also tolerate full sun exposure and even semi-shaded or shaded conditions. When planted in groups, they quickly form colorful and imposing massifs. When planted individually, they enhance the somewhat mild summer blooms.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in sheltered areas (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Impatiens Sunpatiens Compact Hot lilac is easy to grow. It should be placed in full sun or partial shade. Plant it in the ground in spring from March to May, after the last frost, as Impatiens cannot tolerate frost, for flowering from June until the first frost in October. To accelerate its growth, pre-cultivate it in a pot in a warm and bright location. Place the Impatiens in a well-drained and humus-rich soil. Water it generously but be careful not to overwater. Pruning is not necessary. Very floriferous and fast-growing, it is hungry. Feed it with a liquid fertilizer for containers once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to maintain a beautiful appearance and prolong flowering. Be careful, protect it from slugs that enjoy their young leaves, but otherwise, Impatiens Sunpatiens is resistant to diseases.
