Like the rest of the order, arrived in very good condition and immediately transplanted; now we just have to wait.

Description

The Impatiens walleriana 'Beacon Mix' are next-generation varieties, naturally disease-resistant and tolerant to sun unlike classic impatiens. They are also compact, bushy plants that flower profusely from spring to the end of summer. Their blooms - in vivid red, coral, orange, salmon, violet or white depending on the plants - create magnificent and long-lasting multicoloured displays in large flower beds. Frost-sensitive perennial plants, they should be grown as annuals. Beautiful in beds, they are also excellent plants for pots and summer arrangements.

'Beacon' Impatiens is a hybrid cultivar from the Balsaminaceae family, derived from Impatiens walleriana, a botanical species native to tropical Africa. Beacon series plants grow quickly and are grown as annuals in our climates. They have been selected in the USA for their ability to tolerate full sun exposure, and their resistance to powdery mildew and other diseases that usually affect these plants.

'Beacon' Impatiens develops from a thick stump into an erect clump with sturdy stems, with a bushy and spreading habit, reaching a height of 40 to 50 cm (19.7 in) and a diameter of about 35 cm (13.8 in). It is a very floriferous Impatiens, in bloom from June until the first frost in October. It has simple, cup-shaped flowers, open and of varying colours depending on the plants, which carry a spur. Its finely toothed, pointed oval leaves are a beautiful dark green.

'Beacon' is more disease-resistant than the classic Impatiens. It is suitable for large flower beds or borders, bringing charm and elegance. It is also a plant that has few rivals when it comes to enlivening partially shaded areas of the garden, similar to begonias. In the sun it pairs well with companion plants such as foxtail amaranthus. In summer compositions it blends beautifully with petunias, annual salvias, ivy geraniums, or ground cover plants with decorative foliage such as Lysimachia Goldilocks.

Please note that our young plants in mini-plugs are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, frame) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before planting outside once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

Beacon Mix Impatiens are easy to grow.  Plant it in the ground in spring from March to May, in full sun or partial shade, after the last frost has definitely passed, and it will flower from June until the first frost in October. To speed up its growth, pre-cultivate in a pot in a warm and bright place. Place the Impatiens in well-drained and humus-rich soil. Water regularly but be careful not to overwater. Pruning is not necessary. Very floriferous and fast-growing, it is hungry. Feed with a liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep it looking beautiful and extend the flowering period. Be careful to protect it from slugs that enjoy their young leaves, but otherwise the Impatiens Beacon is resistant to diseases.
