Nicotiana sylvestris - Ornamental tobacco

Called Ornamental Tobacco in English, the Nicotiana sylvestris has both a long and fragrant flowering period.

Annual plant native to the United States, the Nicotiana sylvestris is an ornamental annual species, forming large bushes. From May to September, it produces tubular flowers on tall flower stems, ending in trumpets, ivory white, delicately fragrant for almost 5 months. The flowers measure 7 to 9cm (2.8 - 3.5 in) in length and are perched at a height of 1.50m!

The lush leaves form large silky rosettes with a diameter of 50-60cm (19.7 - 23.6 in), and they are a beautiful tender green.

Easy to grow, the Nicotiana sylvestris requires rich soil and water to flower until autumn. Plant it in full sun or partial shade, in a large pot or at the back of a flower bed.

Combine it with white blooms: Arundo donax 'Variegata', white dahlias, and Japanese anemones 'Honorine Jobert'.
