Description

'Parure Mix' Petunias produce large single and unique flowers, striped with white on a pink, yellow, or purple background depending on the plants. These plants bloom early in the season and continue flowering until October. These easy to grow annuals grow very quickly and will decorate the terrace and garden for almost 6 months, with little maintenance required.

Hybrid petunias are all derived from several plants native to the warm regions of South America. Petunia 'Parure Mix' belongs to the Solanaceae family and is closely related to ornamental tobacco. Its foliage also contains alkaloids. This selection forms a round and semi-trailing clump of 25 to 35 cm (10 to 14in) high and 40-50 cm (16-20in) in diameter in record time. Each plant flowers from May-June to October, provided it is well-watered and regularly fed. Its large, cup-shaped flowers are tightly packed together on vigorous and healthy, dense foliage. The quite hairy, dark green leaves have entire edges.

No other flowering annual plant has undergone such intense selection by breeders for such a long period. The results are impressive and petunias rival pelargoniums in splendour and length of flowering, as demonstrated by this beautiful 'Parure Mix' selection. Plant it in large pots or hanging baskets. You can also plant your petunias in flower beds or use them to liven up borders. If you want to stand out, plant several to create an original ground cover at the base of your favourite plants, in harmonious colours.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, repot and store them in a sheltered area (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (surfinia petunias can tolerate a late frost). In the meantime, you can grow them on in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need light and humus-rich, well-draining soil. Do not water them too much at the beginning of the growing season as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. They are floriferous and fast-growing, hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing period. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking good and extend the flowering period.
