Delighted, the clumps arrived in great condition, some already in bloom and still very moist, the packaging is top-notch.

Description

The Yellow Surfinia Petunia has a unique habit, both compact and trailing, which gives this annual plant excellent durability, even in the heat. It is adorned with hundreds of single funnel-shaped flowers pale yellow with a yellow-gold center and veins. Its unparalleled floribundity, from spring to autumn, and its beautiful cascading effect naturally make it perfect for hanging baskets.

The Petunia belongs to the solanaceae family; it is related to ornamental tobacco, for example, and its foliage also contains alkaloids. The Surfinia® Petunia is a relatively recent sterile hybrid, with a trailing and weeping habit, which makes it a stunning plant for hanging baskets. It was created in Japan and is also distinguished by its beautiful and very long flowering period.

The Yellow Surfinia Petunia forms a bushy and trailing clump 25 cm (10in) tall and 35 cm (14in) in diameter. The plant is in bloom from June to October, provided that faded flowers are regularly removed and it is regularly supplied with fertilizer. Its cup-shaped flowers are medium-sized, pale yellow warmed by a bright yellow center and fine veins of the same tone, tightly packed together on dense foliage. The corolla's small center is marked with green. The foliage, quite pubescent, has entire edges and a dark green colour, it is vigorous and healthy. This variety shows an exceptional habit and tolerates heat well.

No other flowering annual plant has undergone such intense selection by breeders for such a long period of time. The results are impressive, as petunias compete with geraniums in terms of beauty and length of flowering, as demonstrated by this Surfinia Yellow variety. Plant it in large pots or hanging baskets, creating a perfect contrast with Dark Blue Surfinia Petunia. You can also plant it in flower beds, to punctuate borders of plants with gray foliage such as dusty miller, sea cineraria or wormwood. If you want to stand out, plant multiple plants to create an original ground cover at the base of plants with gray foliage such as faasseni catmints or pastel-colored annual poppies.

Green plants measuring 4 to 8cm (2 to 3in) in plug plants of 5 small plugs measuring 2.8 cm (1in) in diameter and 4 cm (2in) high, labeled separately. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and are strong enough to be planted in the ground.

Note: Please be advised, our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, repot and store them in a sheltered location (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost is definitively eliminated.

Planting and care

You can plant your petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (surfinia petunias tolerate a small late frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need a light and humus-bearing soil, but above all well-draining. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer periods. Very floriferous and with rapid growth, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertilizer for surfinia petunias once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking good and extend the flowering period.
