Description
The Petunia Tumbelina® Diana, with its adorable white flowers in delicately scented double skirts, is a particularly coquettish member of the Surfinia family. With a slightly trailing habit, it develops stems entirely covered in flowers until October, overflowing from pots and hanging baskets. Drought and heat resistant, this annual plant appreciates sheltered and sunny locations as well as fertile, light, and moist soils.
Hybrid petunias all originated from several plants native to the warm regions of South America. The trailing petunias were discovered by chance in 1989 when a scientist noticed a particularly vigorous wild petunia with bright flowers on the edge of a field: the Petunia inflata. Crossed with others, this species gave rise to the trailing petunias, which were marketed as Surfinias. The Tumbelina® series, developed in England, adds a pleasant touch of fragrance to the vigour and colour of this plant.
The semi-trailing Petunia 'Tumbelina Diana' belongs to the Solanaceae family and is closely related to ornamental tobacco, for example, its foliage also contains alkaloids. This plant rapidly forms a dense and spreading tuft, wider than it is tall, reaching 30 cm (11.8 in) in height and 50 cm (19.7 in) in diameter. It produces hundreds of flowers from June until the first night frosts, provided it is regularly fertilised. Its flowers measure approximately 10 cm (3.9 in) in diameter and are immaculately white... and gently scented. The foliage, quite hairy, has entire margins and a dark green colour.
No other flowering annual plant has undergone such extensive selection work by breeders for over a century. The results are impressive, as petunias rival geraniums in terms of splendour and length of flowering, as demonstrated by this variety. Plant it in large pots or hanging baskets, above walls, wherever its flower-covered stems can cascade. 5 identical or mixed-coloured plants are sufficient to fill a large flower pot. You can also plant them in beds, in large swathes, to punctuate grey foliage borders such as cerastiums or artemisias, or cover the base of roses.
Green plants measuring 4 to 8cm (3.1 in) in 5 small 2.8 cm (0.8 in) diameter x 4 cm (1.6 in) high plugs. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted in the ground.
Note: Please be aware that our young plants in mini plugs are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in sheltered areas (sunroom, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before being planted outside once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care
You can plant your petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (surfinia petunias can tolerate a small late frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need a light and humus-bearing soil, but above all, it must be well-drained. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser for surfinias once or twice a week during the growing season. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking nice and to prolong flowering.
