I ordered Double Lilac surfinias, I'm never disappointed. Right now, I have just received them and planted them in the ground. The parcel arrived in perfect condition in the new cardboard packaging. The young plants are very beautiful and I have no damaged leaves. Now, I will eagerly await the flowering.

Description

This Petunia Surfinia Double Lilac is a very beautiful plant that forms a sumptuous cascade of large, very double flowers in a superb medium pink colour with lilac highlights in just one season. With its unique habit, both compact and upright, its endless flowering, its excellent resistance to bad weather and its beautiful heat resistance, it is undoubtedly a very beautiful variety for hanging baskets. A generous and easy to grow annual, almost maintenance-free!

Petunia belongs to the Solanaceae family; it is closely related to ornamental tobacco, for example, and its foliage also contains alkaloids. These annual, biennial or frost-tender perennial plants are most often grown as annuals, and all originate from the warm regions of South America. The Petunia Surfinia® is a sterile hybrid of petunia, quite recent, with a weeping habit and not upright, which makes it a magnificent plant for hanging baskets. It was created in Japan and is also distinguished by its beautiful and very long flowering.

The Petunia surfinia 'Double Lilac' forms a vigorous bushy and trailing clump, with trailing and velvety stems falling over 60 to 90 cm. The plant is in flower from May-June to October, provided it is regularly supplied with water and fertiliser. Its very double flowers are of a beautiful size, in frills of pink shaded with lilac and are closely packed together on dense foliage. The leaves, quite pubescent, ovate and pointed, have entire edges and a dark green colour, it is vigorous and healthy. This variety shows an exceptional habit and requires very little maintenance, as its sterile flowers often fall off by themselves.

No other flowering annual plant has been subjected to such intense selection by breeders for such a long period. The results are impressive, as petunias compete with geraniums for the splendour and length of their flowering, as evidenced by this Surfinia 'Double Lilac' variety. Plant it in large pots or hanging baskets, creating a perfect contrast with varieties of Surfinia Petunias such as 'Deep Red', 'Sky Blue', 'Snow' or 'Purple'. You can also plant it in a flower bed, to punctuate borders of plants with gray foliage such as cerastiums, cineraria maritima or artemisias. If you want to stand out, plant several plants to create an original ground cover at the base of plants with gray foliage such as Nepeta faassenii or annual poppies in pastel colors.

Green plants from 4 to 8cm (3.1 in) in 5 small plugs of 2.8 cm (0.8 in) in diameter and 4 cm (1.6 in) in height. Our plants are at least eight weeks old and strong enough to be planted outdoors.

Note: Please be aware that our young plants in mini plugs are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once all risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your petunias in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed (surfinia petunias can tolerate a small late frost). In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth. Plant your petunias in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need a light and humus-bearing soil, but above all well-draining. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer weather. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser for surfinias once or twice a week during the growth period. Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep them looking nice and extend the flowering period.
